Letter : San Antonio, Texas, to Thomas H.O.S. Addicks, 1846 Sep 24.

ALS informing Addicks of Trueheart's plan to appeal the decision by Judge William E. Jones in the case of Thomas H. O. S. Addicks vs James L. Trueheart and Thomas Whitehead, and that he will appoint J. L. Hewitt to confer with Addicks' counsel regarding an appropriate amount of compensation should the decision be reversed. Accompanying the letter is an undated manuscript document in an unidentified hand stating that evidence produced before Judge Jones shall be certified to by the Clerk of the District Court as a transcript of the proceedings should the case be appealed to the Supreme Court. The document is signed by V. E. Howard for Addicks, and Van Derlip P. Paschal for Trueheart. The verso is stamped "M-179."

James L. Trueheart came to Texas from Virginia in 1838, settled in San Antonio in 1841, and became Clerk of the District Court. In September 1842, Trueheart was among the Texans captured by General Adrian Woll at San Antonio. He was imprisoned in "Perote Castle" (Castillo de San Carlos, Perote, Mexico), and released on March 22, 1844. Trueheart returned to San Antonio, and later was elected to County and State offices.
